CLASS DESCRIPTION
Join Forrest Lesch-Middelton for a day of volumetric image transfer, demos and story telling.

Sit back, relax, and get inspired in this casual six-hour forum built around a creative, courageous approach to clay. Working on both the wheel and by hand, in this demonstration based workshop, Forrest will show his volumetric image transfer process for functional pots, along with slip-casting spouts, pulling handles, and making tiles. After all these years, he may have a few more tricks up his sleeve to share, too. This workshop will be woven together with plenty of storytelling and conversation about all things clay. We will also talk about making a living in clay and studio practices. Whether you're an educator, a studio potter, curious about manufacturing, or just looking to go deeper in your own practice, there's room for that conversation here.

Forrest Lesch-Middelton first fell for the allure of clay as a freshman in high school and has been hooked ever since. Moving from Seattle to Vermont at age 17 he had a teacher who shared that clay was something you could study in college, from that day forward he saw it as a noble and never ending pursuit. “Clay is as much a part of my life as anything, it has been a constant companion almost as long as I can remember”. In his long career Forrest has been fortunate to have learned from some of the greats, studying undergraduate clay and glass at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University with Linda Sikora, Wayne Higby, Val Cushing, and Anne Currier, and graduate school at Utah State with John Neely and Dan Murphy. Over the years, more than anything, Forrest has learned that there is no replacement for someone who can inspire you to be curious.

Forrest is the co-owner of Petaluma Pottery, and owner of FLM Ceramics and Tile. He has taught ceramics globally in workshops ranging from one day to two weeks. He has taught at the Penland School of Craft, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Idyllwild, Rhode Island School of Design, Syracuse University, Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as teaching as an adjunct professor at Sonoma State University, Santa Rosa Junior College, City College of San Francisco, and many other Bay area colleges.
