When: Friday mornings from 9:30am-12:30pm. This course is on a different schedule than our other multi-week courses. Begins September 19 and ends October 24.

Skill Level: Level 2-3. Pre-requisite: You must have taken a multi-week wheel throwing class at our studio or elsewhere. Must confidently be able to center 2 pounds of clay.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Have you ever made a lid? Did it fit well? How about the glaze? In this class we will explore all types of lidded forms, from the humble sugar jar to an ornate casserole dish and everything in between. Students will learn how to throw and trim the three most common lid types, flange, gallery, and cap lid. We will also spend time making attachments, handles, and finials and how those each should function properly to make the jar easy to use. With lidded jars there are a lot of moving parts and we will have conversations and demonstrations about how those parts can work in concert with one another. Finally, proper glazing techniques are essential for lidded jars, we’ll help you avoid common mistakes in the glaze room that could jeopardize the finished piece.

LOGISTICS
Class fee includes 20 lbs of our in-house clay and firing. You can purchase additional clay if you end up wanting more. You will need a sketchbook or notepad, and a list of tools will be sent prior to class. Your class comes with 8 hours of open studio time to come in and practice what you are learning in class. More details about open studio times and logistics during the first week of class.

CANCELLATION POLICY
If you sign up and then are unable to attend for any reason there are no available refunds or credits unless we can fill your spot with someone on the waitlist, so the sooner you can let us know the better. If we have to fill your spot with someone from the waitlist there is a $25 processing fee to account for our time as well as web fees we can’t recoup. If you have to miss one of your class sessions there are not make up classes for you to attend. Your class comes with open studio hours outside of your class time so you could always speak with your instructor and come in to practice during those times.
Please note a minimum of 4 people is required for most classes to run. If you’ve enrolled and we don’t reach the minimum you will be issued a full refund. If you have questions about our cancellation policy please email us before signing up.
