CLASS DESCRIPTION
Be prepared for a weekend of all things, handles, handles, handles, handles! Handles for pitchers, mugs, teapots, storage jars… you name it!
Good and thoughtful handles are a turning point in the pottery making experience; all pots suffer in comparison to their weakest link; and while a great handle can elevate a mediocre pot, and a bad handle can bring a great pot crashing down with it. This workshop will be taught in two short three hour parts over a weekend. The first part will be Saturday, November 14th from 10am to 1pm, the second part will be Sunday the 15th 10am to 1pm.

On day one, we will make forms on the wheel or by hand, designed for the next day’s handles to be attached to them. The intention is to make pots that have the right proportions and thoughtful locations for handles to be connected to them the following day. We will do drawing exercises, have throwing demos, and look at a lot of pots from a lot of potters! Maybe we will even drink some tea and coffee ;-)

On day two, we will trim and finish the previous day's forms, and explore all the ways we can think of to make handles for them; handbuilt, pulled, rolled, extruded and thrown handles, it is all on the table! The end goal for this workshop is that you will leave with ideas to better your body of work, you’ll be more brave in your decision making, and more skilled with your forming and pulling techniques. Class comes with 5 lbs of clay to make a few small pieces on day one + enough clay to make handles on day two. If you’d like to work bigger you can bring your own clay or purchase more.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Please note a minimum of 4 people is required for most classes to run. If you’ve enrolled and we don’t reach the minimum you will be issued a full refund. If you sign up and then are unable to attend for any reason there are no available refunds or credits unless we can fill your spot with someone on the waitlist, so the sooner you can let us know the better. If we have to fill your spot with someone from the waitlist there is a $15 processing fee to account for our time as well as web fees we can’t recoup. You are welcome to send someone in your stead if you cannot make it, just let us know prior to class so we can update our rosters.
